Catherine gave us quite the scare this Christmas and New Year as a simple ear infection got very serious and she had to be admitted to the hospital, transferred to Halifax, go through surgery and have 7 weeks of IV antibiotics. Thankfully she is healed now with no long term effects. Here are some photos throughout this unique journey. (Yes John Angus was born in the middle of it all!). This is her near the end of her 4 week hospital stay, checking her teddy's heartbeat.
Very sick little girl The infection behind Cat"s left ear paralysed her left eye and caused a blood clot in her brain.
After Operation
A 2-hour operation was done to remove 30cc's of infected material, the left mastoid gland and to put tubes in both her ears.
Post-Op day 1 Catherine was a real trooper. Here with her fancy headband and eye patch.
Post Operation The operation was a success and relieved the pressure on the brain. Catherine continued on an 8 week course of IV antibiotics and 3 months of twice daily injections of a blood thinner to help reduce the clot.
Catherine is a big sister!
Yes, in the middle of all this, at the same hospital, John Angus was born.
Swinging back into action We have so much to be thankful for! Thank God for her health and for the great support of our family and friends throughout all of this!
